Our RCIA Adapted for Children program aims to assist families and children over the age of seven who are new to the Catholic faith. Our processis based on the liturgical year, the Sunday Mass, and its Scripture readings. Volunteers serve a small RCIA-AFC community.
What's the time commitment to be a catechist?
Below are our volunteer opportunities for the RCIA-AFC program
RCIA Catechist for Children
RCIA Catechists for Children are a part of a core team of catechists who facilitate sessions once every 3-4 weeks for a small number of unbaptized older children (children over the age of seven and under the age of fourteen). Catechists prepare our Sunday RCIA sessions using a provided catechist’s guide. Prep time takes about one hour. Catechists help create an environment for learning for children of multiple ages, including liturgical environment, activities for children, and facilitating discussions.
RCIA Aide for Children
RCIA Companions for Children are like RCIA sponsors for adults. They share themselves and their faith experiences with our unbaptized children. Companions participate in an initial training and accompany their unbaptized companion in the weekly RCIA sessions.
RCIA Companion for Children
RCIA Aides for children assist the RCIA Catechist for Children by helping with activities and discussion. Volunteering as an aide is also a great opportunity for teens!
