Mobile Loaves & Fishes began in Austin, Texas, as a ministry of St. John Neumann Catholic Church, and is currently serving the Austin homeless community from several parishes throughout the city. Saint Vincent de Paul is proud to partner with St. Thomas More MLF ministry which operates out of the Fisher house (just behind the Religious Education building on the STM campus). We are currently serving two apartment communities in the Leander area that have been identified as in need of food assistance. Because we serve apartments, as opposed to homeless areas, families are encouraged to volunteer together and all ages are welcome to help. There are several ways for parishioners to participate in Mobile Loaves & Fishes:
- as a volunteer on a Make Ready Team (make sandwiches, load truck with food, groceries & clothes). The Make Ready Team meets from 10:30am to 11:30am every Sunday at the Fisher House
- as a volunteer on a Truck Team (distribute food, groceries, and clothing to the two apartments). The Truck Team meets from 11:30am to 2:00pm every Sunday at the Fisher House
- by donating time to help in support activities such as making hard boiled eggs and/or cookies
- by donating non-perishable food to the STM pantry or donating clothes to the STM clothes closet
- by donating money
- by prayer support
